25/1/2012 - Original Feed in Tariff (FiT) rate to be reinstated
until 3 March 2012
On Wednesday 25 January, 2012, The Court of Appeal ruled against the government and upheld
that proposed cuts are illegal. The 43.3p tariff looks set to be reinstated for 5 weeks - install before
3rd March!

Invest in the future with solar panels
Members of a North East Hampshire village have got together to form the HWSAG (Hartley
Wintney Solar Action Group). Their aim is to help homeowners install solar electricity panels on
their roofs to cut their carbon footprints, invest in renewable energy technology and to take
advantage of the current considerable financial incentives. They have done an assessment of many
installation companies and have selected the most beneficial, with not only a group discount, but
also a free installation on a community building for every 25 installations.
In principle, Oakwood Infant School, Greenfields Junior School and others could benefit should the
group reach the required targets. As well as the financial benefit, the Solar PV panels would also
assist in environmental and renewable energy education and help the schools meet the new
carbon-reduction commitment.
The programme is already underway with 12 installations complete and another 5 booked.
Although they expect most installations to be in Hartley Wintney, homeowners from outside the
village are welcome to join and they already have an installation in the nearby town of Fleet.
"Many people will be looking at the good financial return from a successful installation but I also
enjoy the thought of the sun helping me with my energy needs. It feels really good to know I am
using carbon-free electricity," said Derek Smee, who lives in the village and was one of the first to
get a system. "There will be a number of us trail-blazers there at the meeting on the 13th to answer
any questions and help people decide whether solar panels are for them."
Ken Shorey, another resident of Hartley Wintney, said, "I am happy to recommend Paarl Energy.
The customer service follow-up was impressive."
The financial benefits decrease after April 1st 2012, so now is the time to go solar!

Hartley Wintney Solar Action Group Rises to the
Government's change to the Solar Tariff Deadline
Local people in and around the Hartley Wintney area took up the Government's "Solar Feed In
Tariff" to encourage investment in "micro generation" of electricity using photovoltaic solar
panels. The Hartley Wintney Solar Action Group had high hopes of encouraging its members to
"go green" and installing solar panels on over 100 houses and small businesses in the area by
the April 2012 deadline. A community group buying deal was set up with solar panel installers
PAARL Energy Ltd. But following the Coalition's "U" turn which slashed the Feed in Tariff funding
by half in October, it has been a race against time to get as many systems installed before the
new 12th December deadline.
PAARL Energy's managing director James Taylor says "After all the work involved setting up the
HWSAG scheme, everyone was frustrated and annoyed by the Government's action. By halving
the funding with just six weeks notice in late October, the Government served green
householders and the solar industry with a body blow. We have worked flat out to get 60 systems
installed before the new deadline, including this larger system at Winchfield, which will generate
sufficient power for the daytime electrical requirement of fifteen or more nearby houses. The good
weather this winter has certainly been a great help in getting these installations done. We hope to
work with HWSAG in the New Year on a new scheme to further reduce the price of the solar
panels to enable a reasonable return for homeowners at the reduced Feed in Tariff rate.
Meanwhile we are about to install free systems on the local schools at Oakwood Infants and
Greenfield Juniors, that we are providing as part of the community benefit generated by the group
scheme"

09/02/2012 - Feed in Tariff (FiT) will be reduced soon!
Set out by the Government on 9th February 2012, a tariff of 21p/kWh will take effect from 1st April
2012 for domestic-size solar panels with an eligibility date on or after 3rd March 2012. Other tariff
reductions apply for larger installations.
Properties installing solar panels on or after 1st April this year will be required to produce an Energy
Performance Certificate rating of 'D' or above to qualify for a full FiT. The previous proposals for a 'C'
rating or a commitment for all Green Deal measures to be installed was seen as impractical at this
stage. The government estimates that about half of all properties are already eligible for a 'D' rating.
